It’s been a long time between opening-day starts for Blaine Gabbert, the San Francisco quarterback via the University of Missouri and Parkway West High. The No. 10 overall pick by Jacksonville in 2011 will make his first Week 1 start since 2013 on Monday night against the Rams.
That start came as a Jaguar and marked one of only three games played by Gabbert that year. After being traded to San Francisco in 2014, he threw only seven passes that season backing up Colin Kaepernick. But Gabbert emerged from the wilderness midway through the 2015 season, starting the 49ers’ final eight contests.
