The Los Angeles Lakers were fortunate to receive a gift when Tyson Chandler was bought out by the Phoenix Suns early in the 2018-19 NBA season.
After struggling at the beginning of the new season, the Lakers were able to remedy their lack of big men by signing Chandler. The 36-year-old was being used sparingly in Phoenix and instantly improved Los Angeles’ defense.
With Chandler on board, head coach Luke Walton has been able to play him and JaVale McGee throughout games. Doing so means the Lakers have a traditional rim protector at all times.
