With the 2018-19 NBA trade deadline quickly approaching on Feb. 7, all eyes are naturally on LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers, who are currently sitting outside the Western Conference playoff picture, appear to be the frontrunners to trade for Anthony Davis after his trade request.
Davis’ trade request is hardly surprising given how much the New Orleans Pelicans have struggled during the 2018-2019 NBA season. However, whether or not Los Angeles manages to make a palatable deal for New Orleans remains to be seen.
If the Lakers manage to trade for Davis, it appears Klay Thompson is interested in signing in free agency under certain circumstances, according to Matthew Moreno of Lakers Nation:
“Let’s say they do get a deal done sometime between now and free agency, the best-case scenario for the Lakers is they add Anthony Davis, and then Golden State doesn’t offer Klay Thompson a max contract.
