DALLAS >> The instantaneous feedback seemed reassuring. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant contacted Dallas guard Wesley Matthews shortly after rupturing his left Achilles tendon last March, the same injury the 37-year-old Bryant suffered nearly 2 1/2 years ago.
But instead of offering countless tips on defying Mother Nature, Bryant preached something that does not usually describe the Lakers’ star.
“Patience,” Matthews said in an interview with Los Angeles News Group. “It’s amazing to hear that from somebody like him, who obviously has the drive and work ethic that most people don’t.”
Even before the former Trail Blazer healed his injury, the Mavericks signed Matthews to a four-year deal worth $80 million.
