The most obvious of these problems the Los Angeles Lakers are facing is the lack of reliable point guard play outside of the team’s de-facto PG, LeBron James. Some of this has to do with Rajon Rondo being out due to injury, but even when Rondo returns, there is always the chance that he can be injured again, and if that happens, the team needs to have a backup option.
Players labeled as point guards such as Quinn Cook and Alex Caruso don’t really fit the bill of a traditional playmaker, and while Caruso had a positive showing in his first couple of games of the season against the Jazz, it never hurts to add another true point guard option to the team.
