EL SEGUNDO — The Los Angeles D-Fenders are scheduled to open training camp today at the Toyota Sports Center, with 16 players competing for 12 roster spots on the Los Angeles Lakers’ NBA Development League team.
The roster includes two players assigned to them by the Lakers -- center Robert Upshaw and guard Michael Frazier, who were both cut by the Lakers during the preseason.
An NBA team can assign up to four players to its NBA Development League affiliate after they’ve been cut from the NBA’s team roster and cleared NBA waivers.
The D-Fenders Monday will play a preseason game in Bakersfield against the Phoenix Suns’ NBA Development League affiliate and open the season in Reno against the Sacramento Kings affiliate on Nov.
