Lakers sign Marcelo Huertas to one-year deal

The Lakers signed 32-year-old Brazilian guard Marcelo Huertas to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal, according to a league source familiar with the situation.

Huertas averaged 7.4 points and 4.4 assists last season for FC Barcelona in Spain, where he has played in the past four years. The Lakers already have a competitive backcourt in Kobe Bryant, D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams. But Huertas is considered a steady playmaker that should nurture Russell’s growth and minimize any mistakes he makes his rookie season.

The Lakers are expected to sign at least one more player before media day on Sept.
