The Lakers showed another strong signal that they remain optimistic about Julius Randle’s long-term potential. They announced on Thursday that they have exercised their team option on Randle that would secure him through the 2016-17 season.
The Lakers selected Randle overall in the 2014 NBA draft, but his rookie season was limited to only 14 minutes in the season opener before fracturing his right leg. But Randle has intrigued the Lakers with his playmaking, size, improved conditioning and strong work ethic. Through five exhibition games, Randle has averaged 12.8 points, six rebounds and three assists in 24.5 minutes per contest.
