Lakers' Isaiah Thomas to undergo hip surgery

Thomas said he felt stiffness in his right hip on Saturday and missed the Lakers' last two games of their recent four-game road trip. He was with the team in Memphis and traveled with them to Detroit. From Detroit, Thomas left to go to New York to evaluate treatment options for his hip.

Thomas initially injured his hip in March 2017, when he was playing for the Boston Celtics. He opted not to have surgery and instead spent the next two months playing with the injury, helping the Celtics to the Eastern Conference finals.

Though never fully healthy with the Lakers, Thomas has played in 17 games.
