Lakers guard Isaiah Thomas will undergo arthroscopic hip surgery on Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The surgery ends Thomas' season with the Lakers at 17 games, during which time he made a positive impression on the organization.
Thomas felt stiffness in his right hip when he woke up Saturday and missed the Lakers' last two games of their recent four-game road trip. He was with the team in Memphis and traveled with them to Detroit. Thomas then left Detroit to go to New York to evaluate treatment options for his hip.
Thomas initially injured his hip in March 2017 when he was playing for the Boston Celtics.
