At eight-week intervals, he goes in for an oil change.

He goes to a clinic and sits on a chair, or lies in a bed, and gets hooked up to a bag of Remicade. The procedure lasts two to three hours.

“When it’s over, I’m revved up and ready to go,” Larry Nance Jr. said. “It’s like my Popeye spinach.”

It is also a reminder, maybe an unnecessary one, that Nance could have wound up anywhere but here.

The Lakers picked Nance 27th in the first round of the NBA draft.
