As entertaining off the court as he was on it – and maybe then some – Metta World Peace was one of the most popular members of the last Lakers team to hang a championship banner in Staples Center.
Now he’s back.
The Lakers announced Thursday that they signed World Peace, 35, to a contract that will have him with the team when training camp begins Tuesday in Honolulu. The contract was widely reported to be a non-guaranteed deal for one season.
World Peace was a stalwart defender for the Lakers from 2009-13, and his 3-pointer in Game 7 of the 2010 Finals helped lift the Lakers to their 16th NBA title.
