D’Angelo Russell’s winning shot for Lakers is personal

LOS ANGELES >> The ball bounced high off the rim before falling forcefully into the net, leaving Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell with a wave of emotions.

The reasons went beyond Russell making a game-winning 3-pointer to secure the Lakers a 110-109 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday at Staples Center. Or that several of Russell’s teammates hugged him, including Julius Randle, Larry Nance Jr. Jordan Clarkson, Tyler Ennis and David Nwaba.

Russell quickly broke free of his teammates’ hugs so he could find family members, in the stands. Shortly after, Russell hugged one of his brothers, Antonio, and shed some tears over the recent passing of their grandmother.
