When Randy Pfund took over the Lakers’ head coaching duties in 1992, the organization was at a crossroads. The team had just parted ways with then-coach Mike Dunleavy after a first round exit at the hands of the eventual Western Conference Champion Portland Blazers.
Pfund would inherit a roster that scarcely resembled the great teams of Laker past. Gone were the exploits of Magic Johnson, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, replaced by spare parts like Doug Christie and Elden Campbell.

The Pfund-led Lakers would go on to finish 39-43 and 33-49 in the next two seasons, the latter year marking the worst record since 1975 for the franchise.
