CLEVELAND – Kobe Bryant looked genuinely mystified.
Him? Trying to win MVP at this weekend’s All-Star Game?
“Do what?” he asked.
Then: “Why?”
Shaquille O’Neal said earlier this week that he expected his former teammate to gun for MVP in his final All-Star appearance. He will start in the All-Star Game on Sunday in Toronto after leading all players in fan voting.
But MVP? Not in his plans.
“I’m good,” he said. “I’ll make a couple jump shots and try to play the best I can, but I’m OK.”
That could also just be Bryant adjusting expectations to a level he will be able to exceed.
