The Los Angeles Lakers will not have that much money to spend during the 2020 NBA free agency period, but if some of their free agents decline their player options, they could have a good amount to spend on a guard like Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors. Fred VanVleet will be hitting free agency and looking to get paid anywhere from $15-18 million. His fit in the Los Angeles Lakers’ backcourt with Danny Green. He would also be a great addition to the entire starting five with LeBron James, Anthony Davis and JaVale McGee.
JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard have both been great additions to the Los Angeles Lakers throughout the 2019-20 season, but they are both expected to hit free agency this summer. When they do, they will reportedly be targeted by the Portland Trail Blazers, according to Bleacher Report. The Trail Blazers have Jusuf Nurkic and Zach Collins under contract for next season, but they’re only other big man under contract this year is Hassan Whiteside, who will most likely not return to the Trail Blazers when Jusuf Nurkic is fully healthy. McGee and Howard could be solid additions for a team like the Blazers who don’t have much money to spend.
The Lakers will play eight regular season games before playing in the NBA playoffs in Orlando when the NBA returns. The Los Angeles Lakers will face off against the Utah Jazz two times in those eight games, which could turn out to be a good thing for the Lakers now that the Utah Jazz are without one of the best 3-point shooter in the league in Bojan Bogdanovic. Who the Lakers will play is still unclear as multiple teams will be fighting for the 8th seed in the Western Conference including the Grizzlies, Kings, Suns, Blazers, Pelicans and Spurs.
