The long time assistant coach of Los Angeles Lakers Steve Clifford has been recognized and named as the new head coach of struggling NBA team the Charlotte Bobcats last Wednesday. The new team he is with has very high hopes that their new coach would start a difference in the level of game play after having endured a woeful season.
Steve Clifford is a known veteran having acted as assistant coach for a total of 13 NBA seasons with the most recent one with the Los Angeles Lakers. He took over the position of Mike Dunlap who got fired in April after having finished his season with a 21-61 record. It was actually NBA’s second worst.
According to Rod Higgins, the head of the basketball operations for the Bobcats, Clifford is capable of bringing in a strong pedigree with a reliable track record of success. On the defense, he believes Clifford has set a reputation being an “innovator.”
This first ever head coaching job may be the first for Clifford but it is certainly a big challenge to conquer especially for a team who only had just one winning season since the time it joined the NBA last 2004.
