In another look into Lakers rumors and news at the very beginning of the 2014 NBA free agency period, the Los Angeles Lakers have made a preliminary phone call to LeBron James' agent expressing interest in the four-time NBA MVP.
Here's the scoop from ESPN's Ramona Shelburne:

Per several sources close to the situation, LeBron James is declining meetings at this present moment until he gets a full and clear picture of the direction that the Miami Heat are going in free agency, directing everything to his agent.
However, the Los Angeles Lakers and general manager Mitch Kupchak are making good on their word - putting their intent out there and seeing what they can get.
Kupchak recently stated that the team would be willing to do anything they can to land either New York Knicks free agent Carmelo Anthony or James, especially if interest is reciprocated.
The Lakers are currently slated to meet with Melo on Thursday, and if Melo becomes entranced by the idea of playing in Hollywood, his good friend LeBron James might be willing to listen about a potential pairing at Staples Center.
