After an Orange County Register story quoted a source as saying that the Los Angeles Lakers will retain Mike D'Antoni as their head coach going into 2014-15, new details have emerged when may throw a wrench into the Lakers' plans.
Per Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, "according to a person with knowledge of the situation, D'Antoni has some concerns about returning as a lame-duck coach and is pushing for the 2015-16 option to be picked up. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the discussions."
With the O.C. Register's Mark Heisler indicating that "the key figures in Lakers management (have) agreed on bringing back D’Antoni for a third season as coach," the Los Angeles Lakers may be back in a state of limbo.
Currently the Lakers do not plan on picking up D'Antoni's option for 2015-16, raising doubts that he will return unless the two sides comes to some sort of agreement.
