The Los Angeles Lakers and general manager Mitch Kupchak have circled the summer of 2015 as the time where the pocketbooks will be open in hopes of landing one or two marquee free agents.
Per Max Kellerman of 710 ESPN's Max and Marcellus, one of those marquee free agents is going to be Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo.
Via Lakers Nation:
“As I heard from people who would know told me a couple months ago that [Rajon] Rondo is mortal, about a month ago, that Rondo is a mortal lock to sign with the Lakers.”
“Marcellus, when I first heard that Rondo was coming to L.A., which he is, it was about a month ago and a friend of mine who knows, who is in the business, said it is a mortal lock that the Lakers will sign Rajon Rondo. I’m not going to mention his name, but it is a very reliable source who has his ear to the ground.”
If the Dallas Mavericks aren't willing to go all-in to re-sign Rondo (and it doesn't look like they are), the Lakers seems poised to make a compelling pitch to draw him to Hollywood. If they get that done, wooing another top-line free agent such as Lamarcus Aldridge or Greg Monroe might be a lot easier task with the dynamic Rondo onboard.
