The Los Angeles Lakers are not just the NBA's most storied franchise. They're the best franchise in ALL of sports, American or otherwise. Here are four reasons why:
4) Multitude of great players
Great teams make a great franchise, but a great team has to have great players. Los Angeles has had their fair share and then other teams' fair shares, as Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Shaquille O'Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, George Mikan, and Kobe Bryant headline a cavalcade of transcendent players that have donned the purple and gold.
3) 16 championships
The Boston Celtics may have one more title, but the majority of those came before the Internet was actually a thing that people used. The Lakers, barring a couple bleak years as of late, have been CONSISTENTLY dominant throughout the decades.
2) Hollywood stars
Not only are Laker games chock full of diehard fans, there are always a plethora of star actors and other athletes at Staples Center, creating a special atmosphere unlike any other. You go to other NBA games for the basketball. You go to Lakers games for the basketball and the show.
1) Most valuable franchise in America
According to Forbes, the Lakers are currently valued at $2.6 billion - more than any other franchise in America. To put that into an NBA perspective, it would take over four Milwaukee Bucks franchises (valued at $600 million) to make up one Los Angeles Lakers.
