Quick goes down with injury before the Kings do in loss to Sharks, 2-1

The injury suffered by Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick cast a significant shadow over a team that has heavily relied on his all-star talent and ability to shoulder massive minutes.

Quick suffered a lower-body injury and did not play after the first period in the Kings’ season-opening 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night at SAP Center. Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi told the team’s website, via text, that the timeline on Quick’s injury could be “quite a while.”

The teams met in the first round of the playoffs last season with the Sharks winning in five games and going on to reach the Stanley Cup Final, losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
