Penalties hinder Kings in 4-3 loss to Carolina

The Hurricanes grabbed a three-goal lead less than 25 minutes into the game, when Brett Pesce scored his first NHL goal in the first, and Jeff Skinner and Justin Faulk found the net with two additional markers in the opening minutes of the second.

Dustin Brown was awarded a penalty shot with seven minutes left to play in the second period when Carolina’s Noah Hanifin covered a puck with his glove in the Hurricanes’ crease.

Brown’s penalty shot, the 56th in Kings history, saw him beat Carolina’s Cam Ward with a shot high above the glove side.
