The Kings’ primary affiliate Manchester Monarchs have advanced to the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup Final for the first time in the franchise’s 14-year history. They’ll meet the Western Conference Champion Utica Comets in the best-of-seven game final, which kicks off Saturday evening in New Hampshire at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
THE JOURNEY
MONARCHS DEF. PORTLAND 3-2
The Monarchs defeated the Portland Pirates in the opening series of the postseason in five games. The Monarchs’ series clinching victory was the franchise’s first-ever win in the final and deciding game of a playoff series; they had previously gone winless in three series-deciding contests.
