LA Kings Insider reports that Mike Richards has been formally charged with possession of a controlled substance. Richards entered Canada on June 17th with a small bottle of pills and his car was randomly searched. Upon finding the bottle, he was arrested by RCMP.
His court date is scheduled for September 10th.
It’s sad to see someone who was once atop the league reach this point in his personal life. Richards was instrumental in the Kings getting their first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2012. He had a remarkable career with the Flyers, was a top draft pick, and was a clear leader no matter where he played.
