Kings' Dustin Brown called into hearing with player safety over kneeing of Tampa Bay's Mikhail Sergachev

The Kings, already short of effective forwards, could lose another before their next game with Carolina on Tuesday if the league decides to suspend Dustin Brown for kneeing Tampa Bay defenseman Mikhail Sergachev in the second period Saturday.

Brown was scheduled to have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday about the unprovoked, open-ice hit. The play earned Brown a penalty and an ejection from the Kings' 4-3 loss.

The Kings are already without Trevor Lewis indefinitely. Lewis slammed head-first into the boards Friday in the team's opener of a season-long seven-game trip in South Florida.
