27 Years Ago: Gretzky's 1,851st

27 years ago today, Wayne Gretzky broke the NHL’s points record in a Kings uniform.

In what was the start of his second full season with the Kings, he and the club traveled to Edmonton, Alberta on October 15, 1989 to take on the Oilers in an early-season battle against the defending Stanley Cup Champions at the-then Northlands Coliseum.

For Gretzky, it was his fifth game back in Edmonton since the August 9, 1988 trade that brought him to the Kings.

He entered the game with 1,849 career points to his name, which was downright astounding, considering he was in his only 11th NHL season.
