It’s important not to hype the LA Galaxy’s Efrain Alvarez too much. The 16-year old dual national who thrives in the attack as a playmaker and finisher still has to grow into his body, and there are times when he drifts in and out of matches.
There are also times when he reminds us of his otherworldly talent and natural technical skill. In the 10th minute of Mexico’s romp over Bermuda in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship, Efrain delivered the goods big time. Racing onto a long ball from a Jesús Gómez who was well inside El Tri’s own half, Alvarez cushioned the pass with the outside of his left boot and let the ball bounce before poking a finish over the onrushing keeper easy as you like.
