Germany defeated Sweden in a thrilling 2-1 extra time contest on Oct. 10, 2003. Nia Künzer scored a sudden-death golden goal winner to give Germany their second-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup title.
A packed house of 26,137 were in attendance to see the Germans lift the trophy at the glittering Southern California venue. The StubHub Center hosted six matches during the tournament including the final and third-place play-off which saw the United States defeat Canada in front of a jam-packed house.
