CARSON, Calif. – To say the LA Galaxy face a daunting task in the CONCACAF Champions League this season, starting with Wednesday’s quarterfinal matchup with Santos Laguna (7 pm PT/ FS1) at StubHub Center, would be an accurate assessment. And for good reason.
History in this competition certainly is not on their side. Mexican clubs, for example, have won all seven of the CCL tournaments in the current format. They have won 12 of their 14 quarterfinal/knockout-round series and hold an impressive 32-2-8 record in CCL matches in Mexico.
Only one American club has ever reached the final in this event.
