LOS ANGELES -- Efrain Alvarez and Mexico are through to the semifinals of the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup following a 1-0 victory over the Korea Republic on Sunday.
Alvarez played 70 minutes in a cagey contest against the Asian side that saw the Mexico score a pair of late goals to advance to the U-17 World Cup semifinals for the fourth time in five tournaments. Ali Vega scored the lone goal for Mexico in the 77th minute.
Mexico will face the Netherlands for a berth in the U-17 World Cup on Thursday.
