LOS ANGELES -- Efrain Alvarez scored a stunning free kick as Mexico advanced to the 2019 Under-17 FIFA World Cup Final by defeating the Netherlands.
Alvarez scored a world-class free kick in the 78th minute to help El Tri earn a 1-1 result and force the Netherlands into a penalty kick shootout. The LA Galaxy homegrown player missed the first attempt, but goalkeeper Gerardo Mendoza made three saves to send El Tri through to their fourth-ever U-17 World Cup final.
Mexico will play the winner of Brazil/France on Sunday at 2pm PT.
