While Manager Don Mattingly wouldn’t completely rule out the possibility of Yasiel Puig playing in the opening round of the playoffs, he sounded Sunday as if he isn’t counting on the right fielder to be available.
“Right now, it’s just not part of the equation,” Mattingly said. “When it becomes part of the equation, then we’ll think about it a lot more.”
Mattingly was talking not only about Puig, but also infielder Jose Peraza. Both players are recovering from strained hamstrings.
Puig was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 28. Peraza last played a game on Sept.
