LOS ANGELES >> Yasiel Puig hasn’t played winter baseball since he was 21, a few months after he successfully defected from Cuba.
Puig played 20 games for Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Winter League in 2012. It was a logical step after his first season in the Dodgers organization, which consisted of 23 games in the low minor leagues.
Now, after shuffling between the majors and Triple-A this year, Puig would like to continue playing past October. This time, the outfielder has his sights set on playing in the Dominican Republic.
The purpose, Puig said through his interpreter: “I want to get ready for next year.
