Yasiel Puig homered and drove in two runs, leading the Dodgers over the Diamondbacks 3-1 on Wednesday night to complete a three-game sweep of Arizona at Dodger Stadium.
The win, coupled with the Giants’ 6-5 loss in Colorado — entering the bottom of the ninth inning with a 5-3 advantage — extended the Dodgers’ lead in the National League West to five games, their largest lead of the year.
Arizona struck first with a run in the opening inning for a second straight night. Paul Goldschmidt, somehow held to 1-for-7 with a walk in the first two games of the series, hit a little pop fly to short right field with two outs, and it just trickled out of the glove of diving second baseman Charlie Culberson.
