LOS ANGELES -- New Cuban import Yaisel Sierra was added to the Class-A Rancho Cucamonga roster on Wednesday and will start for the Quakes Friday night, making his U.S. pro debut.
The right-hander, who turns 25 in June, signed a six-year, $30 million contract with the Dodgers in February, and joins Rancho Cucamonga from extended spring training, where he was working with coaches at Camelback Ranch.
The Dodgers plan to develop Sierra as a starter.
"A lot of guys you have that debate of starter or reliever, and it's nice to have a fallback," vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes said in February.
