GLENDALE, Ariz. – Andrew Toles figured he had better come to spring training prepared to fight for a spot on the roster.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s the Dodgers. That’s the word on the street,” the rookie outfielder said after going 2 for 4 with a grand slam against the Oakland A’s Saturday. “It’s like that pretty much at every position.”
The competition has thinned out for Toles in left field.
Andre Ethier met with back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins Saturday to discuss a treatment plan for Ethier’s herniated disc. With the veteran outfielder certain to be sidelined for a significant portion of the early-season schedule, Franklin Gutierrez is left without a left-handed partner in the left-field pairing the Dodgers had planned.
