Vin Scully was not waiting around for the Dodgers to make another World Series. He has things to do, you know.
But can the Washington Nationals do something that’s never happened in Scully’s lifetime?
The last time a Washington-based major league team won a World Series road game was on Oct. 7, 1924, more than three years before Scully’s birth. It happened near his home, in New York’s Polo Grounds.
Left-hander George Mogridge, who had pitched the Yankees’ first no-hitter in 1917, beat the Giants, 7-4. The Senators won that World Series in seven games, on a win by Tom Zachary, much better known for serving up Babe Ruth’s 60th home run in 1927.
