Whicker: Tim Raines goes to Cooperstown, hoping he’s not the last Expo

Four buses from Montreal will get to Cooperstown on Saturday.

They will bring fans of the Montreal Expos, a team that died and went to Washington in 2005, an idea that lives on.

They will be there to see Tim “Rock” Raines, their beloved leadoff man and basepath commando, pass through the doors of the Hall of Fame.

Even then they will not dodge indignity. They will watch Bud Selig, the former commissioner, become a Hall of Famer, too.

The Veterans Committee elected Selig last December. That’s the group of executives, former players and media types that has not elected a living player since Bill Mazeroski in 2001 and routinely bats aside Jack Morris, Steve Garvey and Dick Allen.
