Whicker: Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez heats up for stretch run

LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers have their next first baseman all picked out.

Cody Bellinger can pick it, throw it, rake it. He had 30 home runs at Rancho Cucamonga last year, 15 at Tulsa this year. He has an ex-MLB dad and exudes “makeup.”

The Dodgers can also tell their next first baseman to take his time.

The current one is Adrian Gonzalez, their offensive redeemer ever since he came from Boston with Hanley Ramirez and Josh Beckett, on that wild weekend in 2012.

He is now 34. It has taken him longer than usual to turn the offensive crank, but he has assaulted August like a plate of ribs.
