SAN DIEGO -- It might be the closest thing to a sure thing baseball has – Clayton Kershaw on opening day.
Kershaw had as many hits as he allowed -- one -- in seven innings Monday afternoon as the Dodgers started the 2016 season by pounding the San Diego Padres for 17 hits (including seven doubles and one triple) in a 15-0 victory at Petco Park Monday afternoon.
The 15 runs scored are the second-most in franchise history on opening day. The Dodgers beat the Houston Astros 16-7 in their first game of 1983.
