SAN FRANCISCO -- Justin Turner, showing no ill effects from a bruised left thumb suffered Wednesday night, slugged a two-run homer in the fifth inning Friday night to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead in their critical series opener against the Giants.
With one out, Turner followed Enrique Hernandez's third hit of the night off Madison Bumgarner by crushing a 2-2 cutter into the seats in left-center. It was Turner's 14th home run of the season and fourth of his career against Bumgarner.
With the Rockies beating the Nationals on Friday night, the Dodgers needed a victory to remain a game back of the National League West leaders.
