Torrance Pearl Harbor survivor to be honored at Dodgers game

LOS ANGELES >> A 95-year-old Torrance resident, wounded in the Japanese attack on the USS Arizona in 1941, will be honored as the Military Hero of the Game Sunday at Dodger Stadium.

Lauren Bruner and his crew were the last to leave the battleship before it sank on Dec. 7. 1941, in what military historians consider one of the USS Arizona’s greatest escapes. He is the author of a new book, “Second To The Last To Leave.”

Bruner was wounded by machine gun rounds from an enemy bomber and spent seven months in Navy hospitals, with burns to more than 73 percent of his body.
