LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers on Wednesday optioned outfielder Andrew Toles to Triple-A Oklahoma City, essentially setting the 25-man Opening Day roster.
The move on Toles indicates that Joc Pederson will be the fourth outfielder and Kyle Farmer the third catcher. Trayce Thompson had been designated for assignment on Tuesday when Cory Mazzoni was claimed from the Cubs and optioned to Triple-A.
Farmer will provide a tough right-handed batter off the bench, while Toles will receive everyday playing time as he returns from serious knee surgery.
The club will open the season with 13 pitchers, eight in the bullpen.
