Time Warner says it's giving up on efforts to sign other providers to carry Dodgers

LOS ANGELES – Having struck out with its lower-priced enticements, Time Warner said Thursday it has abandoned its efforts to get wider distribution for SportsNet LA, the channel owned by the Dodgers.

Time Warner had offered to cut the carriage fee to pay TV providers such as DirecTV and Cox Communications, but the providers spurned the overture, leaving the channel with only Charter Communications, Bright House Networks and Time Warner Cable showing the Dodgers when the season opens on Monday.

That day also marks the first game of legendary broadcaster Vin Scully’s final season.

The ongoing dispute between Time Warner and cable providers AT&T, DirecTV, COX and Verizon has caused roughly 3 million viewers to miss the Dodgers on television.
