The Risks of Selling High

A big catch phrase these days is the term “selling high”. People love to talk about jettisoning a player with that excuse. It basically means to trade a player before their value starts to decline. The Dodgers seemingly did that with Dee Gordon last winter and it came back to bite them in the rear big time.

It can be a mistake to give up on a player too soon. The Dodgers traded Gordon to the Marlins along with Dan Haren and Miguel Rojas for utility man Enrique Hernandez, catcher/second baseman Austin Barnes, reliever Chris Hatcher, and starting pitcher Andrew Heaney.
