Let’s make one thing clear before we discuss the subtle dig that the Los Angeles Dodgers took at the Los Angeles Angels on Friday to begin the Freeway Series — the Angels play in Anaheim, not Los Angeles.
When the Angels walked into the visitors’ clubhouse at Dodger Stadium on Friday, their lineup board simply read, “Welcome Anaheim Angels.”
The Angels officially dropped Anaheim from their name in 2013 but it doesn’t change the fact that the Angels play there. They play in Orange County, not Los Angeles County.
That is why when they play the Dodgers, it is called the Freeway Series.
