Surgery unlikely for Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw, who receives epidural injection for mild herniated disc, heads to DL

MILWAUKEE -- Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw received an epidural injection in his lower back and will be placed on the DL until at least the All-Star break.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts would not specify what the diagnosis was after Kershaw was examined by back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles on Wednesday. But an epidural injection usually indicates an issue of some kind with a disc.

This will be only the second time in Kershaw's career that he has gone on the DL. He spent five weeks on the DL in 2014 and returned to win both the National League Cy Young and Most Valuable Player Awards.
