Shohei Ohtani is on the Brink of Breaking a 69-Year-Old Dodgers Record

With one swing of the bat on Wednesday night, Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani could inscribe his name in Dodgers history forever.

After crushing a leadoff home run against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday, Ohtani tallied another run batted in, giving him at least one RBI in nine straight games. That ties Roy Campanella’s franchise record. RBIs became an official stat in 1920.

Augie Galan (1944), Eddie Brown (1924), and Bob Fisher (1913) also pulled off the feat. Matt Kemp also drove in runs in nine consecutive games, but that streak was split across the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
