Sergio Romo thankful for his first inning as a Dodger

LOS ANGELES — Sergio Romo thanked Dave Roberts after pitching a scoreless sixth inning in Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres. The manager said it was the first time a pitcher thanked him for putting him in a game.

“That came as a surprise,” Roberts said, “but I think it was pretty genuine.”

Romo’s first series as a Dodger has been an emotional one. He’s received ticket requests from his parents, older sister, nieces, nephews, cousins, childhood friends, college teammates and high school teammates.

“It was quite the turnout,” Romo said. “I’m thankful they decided to come out and be a part of this, to witness this, because for me it was like the little kid in me -- a long time coming.
